“Hi, my name is Lu Ann and I’m calling from the Mohawk College Alumni Association. May I please speak with [Insert Lost Alumni Here]. “
First off, if you recognize the saying above then I’m very sorry if I called your house to talk to someone who does not live there. From 2010-2012 I worked at the Mohawk College Alumni Association as a student tracker. My main responsibility was to find lost alumni and update their contact information for the alumni database. A lost alumnus is someone who graduated from a full-time program at Mohawk College and their contact information is no longer valid.
In my search, I talked to some outstanding alumni about what they were up to now, and how Mohawk College has helped them get there. From what I’ve learned, it seems like most think after you graduate it just ends there. However, I would probably think the same thing if I had not worked at the Alumni House. Being employed there has really shown me just how valuable an alumni association is to any post secondary institution. Our alumni association is somewhere you can go to locate an old classmate or teacher you want to get in touch with. Always be sure to keep them updated on things happening in your life as well. They are the best place to go to if you want to get your exciting news out to the Mohawk community!
I can sit here and explain to you that the Mohawk College Alumni Association is “the catalyst for a life long relationship between Mohawk College and its Alumni” but I’d rather describe it how I did at my interview for the Student Tracker position back in September 2010. To this day, my college roommate still makes fun of me for saying it. “I never really knew what the Alumni House was for. I would just joke that it’s where select Alumni all live together until they find a job in their field.” Okay, so maybe that’s not the correct description because only four great ladies live there (kidding, again…). Needless to say, we were both surprised, but glad I landed the job!
Since I have a way with words, here is a song I wrote along with the help of someone you may already know (even though she didn’t graduate from Mohawk College). Hopefully it will help give you a better understanding of the Mohawk College Alumni Association. For an even greater effect, play this in the background while
Stop by the house when you can,
Don’t ask us, go with your plan
Share with us where life began,
Always stay connected…
It doesn’t just end at grad,
Tell us about your new pad
If you’re a mom or dad,
Always stay connected…
Whether you’re old or new,
We have benefits for you
Discounts, events to do,
Tell us if you need more info…
Hey, you went to Mohawk,
And you’re an alumni,
Give us your number,
Keep In Touch, maybe?
It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? 🙂
