Mix & Mingle this December

December is a great month for reflection, a chance to make new connections for 2015 and also gives you the opportunity to get in the holiday networking mood. Luckily for Hamilton networkers, there is an array of mixers to attend and get your mingling on.

Here are three holiday networking events for the communications and media professional working or looking to get their foot in the Hamilton community.

  • IABC Golden Horseshoe’s ‘Stay off the media’s naughty list.’ Pegged as a holiday social and professional development event, the IABC Golden Horseshoe’s December event is a two for one package deal. Enjoy a mixer while learning new ways to handle a communications crises situation with keynote speaker and crisis expert, Jeff Ansell. Listen to this speaker as he provides you tips and tricks on how to keep your organization or business off the naughty list. Both members and non-members of the IABC GH are welcome to this event on Wednesday, December 3 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Burlington Golf & Country Club. This venue has a stunning view that is sure to provide a picturesque winter wonderland. Register today.
  • CPRS Hamilton Holiday Humbug. This event, put on by the Canadian Public Relations Society Hamilton Chapter, is a low-key, intimate outing. I have attended several times in the past and it is always an enjoyable year-end celebration for PR professionals. It’s perfect for the student testing their networking waters. Since I attended while I was still a student, I consider this event a great time to catch up with some mentors, meet new ones, and reflect on years past. At the CPRS Hamilton Holiday Humbug, you’ll make some connections for 2015 and be able to connect for freelance opportunities, professional development or mentoring opportunities if you so please. This year, the Humbug will be on Thursday, December 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s Design Annex on James Street North. A perfect location in the heart of the city. Don’t forget your business card, the event details say there will be door prizes! Find out more here.
  • Hamilton Media Guild’s one-year celebration and keynote. Although a newer networking group, the Hamilton Media Guild always draws a large crowd of both young and seasoned journalism and communications professionals. This one year celebration will recap the few strong events that the group held since launching in December 2013 and will feature a keynote speech from Andrew Gerrior of 95.3 Fresh FM and #NotFlatt. Gerrior is set to share just how he stays social in a competitive media industry. Join this group on Thursday, December 11 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Gasworks.
